Orangutan Tour at Tanjung Puting National Park

 Tanjung Puting National Park is a national park located in the Southwest peninsula of the province of Central Kalimantan. Tanjung Puting National Park is the first location in Indonesia as an orangutan Rehabilitation Center. There are three locations for the rehabilitation of orangutans which are Tanjung Harapan, Pondok Tanggui, and Camp Leakey. Borneo Orangutan has a dark reddish fur and no tail. In line with the growth of age, adult males develop to form a bearing on the cheek. The older, larger cheek pads so that his face seemed grim.  

Tanjung Puting National Park has several ecosystem types consisting of lowland tropical rain forest, dry land forests, freshwater swamp forest, mangrove forest, beach forest and secondary forest. Tanjung Putting National Park region with 415 040 ha area inhabited by about 38 species of mammals. Seven of them are well-known primates and is protected as orangutan (Pongo pygmaeus), proboscis monkey (Nasalis larvatus), gibbon-gibbons (Hylobates agilis), and sun bears (Helarctos malayanus).  

The types of large mammals such as sambar deer, barking deer (Muntiacus muntjak), deer (Tragulus javanicus), and wild boar (Sus barbatus) can be found in this region. In fact, some types of aquatic mammals such as dugongs (Dugong dugong) and dolphins reportedly been seen in waters around the area Tanjung Puting National Park.

Tanjung Puting and several national parks in Kalimantan is the final place for the rehabilitation of the reintroduction of wild animals, especially orangutans. Once you arrive in Camp Leaky, some orangutan will greet you warmly, even though they now live in dense forest but they are still benign to anyone. An unforgettable experience that you never have.

Its natural characteristics of the equatorial rain forests, soil fertility and has a valuable mineral. Flowing river presents a variety of lifestyles, a quiet environment with multiple species of trees and mangroves along the banks of the river while the tree glowing at night covered by thousands of fireflies - a beautiful glow to the view.

How to reach the location:

From Kuching (Malaysia) take a flight to Pontianak (West Kalimantan) for 30 minutes. There is no connecting flight so that you will have to stay one night at Pontianak. Take a flight from Pontianak (West Kalimantan) to Pangkalan Bun (Central Kalimantan) for about 1 (one) hour. At Pangkalan Bun take a ground vehicle to Kumai about 20 minutes (8 km). Furthermore, from Kumai to the Cape of Good Hope using klotok for 1.5-2 hours, or Kumai - Natai galangal for 4-5 hours. Using a fast boat from Kumai - Cape of Good Hope for 0.5 - 1 hour, from Kumai - Camp Leakey for 1.5 - 2 hours.
